Community Based
Doula Training

Now Accepting Applications for the
Spring 2027 Cohort

Applications for Cohort 4 will open in February 2027

Rootead’s Community-Based Doula Training prepares aspiring doulas to provide compassionate, culturally responsive, and evidence-based support to families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Our program is designed to cultivate birth workers who are committed to advancing birth equity, improving maternal and infant health outcomes, and serving their communities with confidence and professionalism.

Our training utilizes the HealthConnect One Community-Based Doula Training Curriculum, which is approved by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Because the curriculum meets MDHHS training requirements, graduates are eligible to pursue Michigan Medicaid enrollment and reimbursement upon successful completion of the training and fulfillment of all requirements.

Participants receive comprehensive instruction in pregnancy, labor and birth support, postpartum care, lactation, newborn care, professional ethics, trauma-informed care, advocacy, perinatal loss and community resource navigation. The program also includes hospital tours and hands-on learning opportunities, and connections to experienced birth professionals.

Cost:

  • $50 Application Fee due at the time of submission
  • $500 Training Program (Kalamazoo Residents)
